Movie Review: MST3K: Pod People

While we were scanning through the episodes of MST3K available for instant streaming from Netflix, so we could watch something intended to be horror for Hallowe'en [1], we spotted Pod People. Leann immediately perked up because she could recall an episode of the TV show Hey Dude where they're eating potato chips and they start talking about this movie. So we decided to watch it and find out why. We were not disappointed. Or, rather, we were.

As one of the pre-show characters mentions, this movie has nothing to do with pods or people (or, as it turns out, potatoes). The movie is Spanish, dubbed in English. It is about a space creature that lands on Earth. It (and its offspring) begin terrorizing some of the local wildlife (i.e. humans). Eventually the humans let it go back into the forest and just forget about all the people it's killed. The writers of the television show must've seen the MST3K version because the only reference to potatoes is by one of the heckling robots (in reference to the poorly done special effects for the aliens' appearance).

Favorite lines: L.A. police department; cameraman looking the wrong way; Smuckers; Rennaissance Faire; data stream; breakfast getting cold; potatoes; vacuum attachments; burning oil; keep her away from the animals; Trumpy dumpy. The many references to McCloud [2] were only amusing because of how frequently they came up.
