Week Seven

Last Friday Lillian turned seven weeks old.[1] She's made some more progress:
  • She's over 7 pounds now
  • She successfully completed "12-hour request"
  • She successfully completed "24-hour request"
  • She successfully completed "24-hour on demand"
  • And you know what that means…she got to come home!!!
She came home on Monday, August 15th, which also happened to be Leann's birthday! Happy birthday, honey!

Week Six

This Friday Lillian turned six weeks old.[1] She's made some more progress:
  • She's up to 6 pounds 11 ounces
  • She's moved up to nursing four times a day instead of three
  • She's also started nursing "back-to-back"
  • She's moved up to "12-hour request
Those last couple bear some explanation. The procedure for bringing home a baby from the UVRMC NICU is as follows: nurse twice a day → nurse three times a day → nurse four times a day → nurse "back-to-back" → "12-hour request" → "24-hour request" → "24-hour on demand" → bring baby home. Allow me to explain what each of those mean in more detail.

WARNING: If you are bothered by pictures infants in intensive care, you probably shouldn't read on.

Mayan Hieroglyphs, Part V

It's been a few months, now, since I played around with Mayan hieroglyphs [1], but now that we have a new addition to our family [2] it's time to do another. With Lillian's early arrival and the class I've been teaching this term, it's taken me a while to find enough time to complete this. But it's finally here.

Week Five

This Friday Lillian turned five weeks old.[1] She's made some more progress:
  • She's up to 6 pounds 5 ounces and 19 inches long, which means…
  • She's stopped wearing preemie clothes and preemie diapers and moved on to newborn sizes
  • They've stopped giving her protein supplement [2]
We're still 'feeding' her three times a day. I put it in quotes because once or twice each day she refuses to wake up and eat. We pester her in all kinds of ways to get her to wake up, but she wants nothing to do with it. She'll fuss as long as we're bothering her, but as soon as we stop she falls right back asleep.

WARNING: If you are bothered by pictures of rashes or of infants in intensive care, you probably shouldn't read on.
