Hunting and Wildlife Management Maps

Apparently my obsession with drawing maps for Wikipedia hasn't quite cooled, yet. When I went to see Leann in her lab a few weeks ago, I spotted a map on the wall detailing the wildlife management units for Utah. Rather than tear it down and scan it so that I could make an .svg map out of it [1], I searched online for the same information. I found a version by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources [2] and a version put together by Utah State University.[3] At the USU site, I also spotted a map showing the regional hunt units for Utah. I made maps of both. So that county lines could still be visualized, I made the units semi-transparent. Then I went ahead and made maps for several other states.

Utah has 5 regional hunt units.

Utah has 30 wildlife management units, some of which are further divided into subunits.

Nevada has 3 regional hunt units.

Nevada has 29 wildlife management units, most of which are further divided into subunits.

Idaho has 7 regional hunt units.

Idaho has 12 wildlife management units, all of which are further divided into subunits.

New Mexico has 4 regional hunt units.

New Mexico has 58 wildlife management units, some of which are further divided into subunits.

Arizona has 6 regional hunt units.

Arizona has 46 wildlife management units, some of which are further divided into subunits.

Oregon has 6 regional hunt units.

Oregon has 67 wildlife management units.

I could've kept going, but I started losing interest in making these maps. For one thing, Montana and Wyoming have different management units for the different game species. For another, states like Colorado and Washington had hundreds of management units.[4] So even though there are probably easy maps to make for many of the other states (e.g. Pennsylvania [5]), I petered out before even finishing the Western states.
