Product Review: Lindt Excellence: Black Currant

There are a lot of fruits and berries that I've never tried. One of them is currants. So when I spotted a new flavor of Lindt Excellence bar, blackcurrant, I was intrigued.[1] According to Wikipedia, blackcurrant is as popular a flavor for candies in Europe as grape is in North America.[2]

My verdict: We didn't initially realize that this also had almonds in it. But we like almonds, so that was okay. The blackcurrant flavor reminded me of blueberries and huckleberries, even though they're not very closely related.[3] The chocolate bar was tasty, however, I didn't find the flavor of blackcurrant to be special enough to merit buying this again.

Notes:

[1] I've also reviewed a chili pepper-flavored Lindt Bar. You can read the review here.

[3] Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) belongs to the order Saxifragales while blueberries (Vaccinium spp.) and huckleberries (Vaccinium spp. and Gaylussacia spp.) belong to the order Ericales.
